High Flying Performance Coming to Allvoi Pursuit Series! Jesse White Tumbling Team and Dance Troupe will give a high-flying performance Saturday, September 5 at 1 PM during the final event of Allvoi Cup Pursuit series at Ed Rudolph Velodrome in suburban Northbrook! They are everywhere, at major sporting events and neighborhood festivals. Jesse White, who was a gymnast as a child, was the founder of the Jesse White Tumblers in 1959. It was formed to create a positive alternative program for kids in the Chicago area that will help them succeed and stay away from drugs, gangs, and alcohol. He has worked with the team for 49 years and received international recognition by performing in China, Bermuda, and Japan. Currently the team consists of six groups of 205 kids and 400 in training at the Moody Bible Institute. "Many of these kids [on the tumbling team] are in college," White said. "They cannot drink, smoke, drop out of school, or dislike someone because of race, creed or color, because that is unacceptable" – said White in recent interview. The tumblers are often seen during half-time shows for the National Basketball Association, the National Football League and Major League Baseball Games. They entertain at business and sporting events year-round, including colleges and universities nationwide. The Tumblers have appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show starring Jay Leno, Good Morning America, The Jenny Jones Show, Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse Club, and CBS’s “How’d They Do That”. They have been featured in commercials for Coca-Cola, Jewel Food Store, The Chicago White Sox and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. The Team has appeared in the movies Heaven is a Playground, Ferris Buehler’s Day Off and performed stunts in the movie” The Meteor Man”, starring Robert Townsend. In addition, the Jesse White Team performed during the 52nd and 53rd Presidential Inaugural Parades. Fifteen current and former members have toured with Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus as the “Chicago Kidz." The Tumblers have also toured and performed with the Harlem Globetrotters. |
